Hadar Sopher – “FCKED UP”

RD: March 31, 2023

The songwriter and producer Hadar Sopher is an up-and-coming artist from Israel, who, at just 25 years old, already has an impressive story to look back on. Having been born into a life of feeling unsafe - preventing him from showing his true colors and keeping to himself to avoid getting bullied for being different - then escaping his hometown at the age of 18 in order to break free and live his dreams, all have undoubtedly shaped who he is today: A young but extremely determined visionary, and a boundless creative ready to expose his vulnerable side, on a mission to turn everything he’s experienced, felt, and thought up until now into something that doesn’t just save himself, but also offers both solace and pure musical joy to anyone seeking it. Freshly signed to Columbia Music, Hadar Sopher is now set to release his brand new single “FCKED UP”.

“FCKED UP” discusses Hadar’s struggle to find closure following the breakup with his ex-girlfriend. On the self-produced track, the singer & songwriter reveals that he believes he’s meant to be back with his ex and that she feels the same, but for some reason, the two cannot find a way to reconcile and resolve their issues. Kicking off with its ultra-catchy hook line, the track unfolds into a captivatingly upbeat pop anthem that offers a stark sonic contrast to the sorrowful story that inspired it, and is thus a perfect example of Hadar Sopher’s signature style: No matter how tough life gets, he faces things head on and with a tongue-in-cheek attitude that makes any problem appear manageable.

“FCKED UP” is accompanied by a Groundhog Day inspired music video, that takes place in two worlds – one being his reality, at home in his bedroom, and the other a dreamworld of fatal accidents, symbolizing his pain and the hopelessness of the dire situation he finds himself stuck in. And speaking of dream worlds: Hadar isn’t just full of creativity on the inside, he’s rather surrounded by it – roaming freely in an imaginary universe he’s created for himself. It’s a space that is both the birthplace of all his ideas and the incubator, in which they are ripened and continue to grow until they’re ready to be released.

“FCKED UP” also shines a light on the wonderful rasp in Hadar Sopher voice - the type that really gets under one’s skin when listening to tracks as personal as this one. It’s a feature that Hadar is particularly proud of, as it reminds him of Chris Martin’s sound, who just so happens to be the frontman of the band that got him hooked on international pop music in the first place: Coldplay.

Hadar Sopher’s sound is uniquely his own but incorporates an interesting blend of elements that are reminiscent of his musical influences such as Harry Styles’ blatantly colorful and wildly untamable radiance, US producer Charlie Puth’s fun-loving and happy-go-lucky spirit, or the relatable, easy-going vibe of Dominic Fike. At heart, Hadar is a hopeless romantic, yet his musical output is in no way confined to heavy ballads, but refreshingly fun and energetic. Tackling subjects such as breakups, love, lust, overthinking, and insecurities, listeners find their own struggles reflected in Hadar Sopher’s tracks and feel inspired by the uplifting, cheery nature of them, despite all hardships both the artist, as well as his audience, have to deal with in everyday life.

“FCKED UP” by Hadar Sopher is set to be released via Columbia on March 31, 2023.
